AGE

The median age of offenders in each state and territory was:
  • 25 years in the Australian Capital Territory;
  • 26 years in Queensland and Tasmania;
  • 26 years in New South Wales;
  • 28 years in Victoria;
  • 29 years in South Australia and Western Australia; and
  • 30 years in the Northern Territory.

In 2013-14, offender rates were highest in the 15-19 year age group in New South Wales, Victoria, Northern Territory and Australian Capital Territory. In Western Australia, Tasmania, Queensland and South Australia, offender rates were highest in the 20-24 year age group. (Table 8)
